Mid-Level Packaging Designer
Location: Edenvale, Johannesburg (In-office)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00

About the Role:
We are in search of a mid-level Packaging Designer who possesses a strong grasp of commercial design, production realities, and brand consistency. This role requires someone who can expertly manage packaging from initial brief to print-ready artwork.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and create retail packaging for a variety of product categories and brands
• Accurately apply and interpret brand guidelines across different packaging lines
• Prepare print-ready artwork, ensuring correct dielines, bleeds, CMYK conversion, and image enhancements
• Deep-etch, retouch, and verify the quality of product images received from local and international suppliers
• Ensure the precision of specifications, features, warnings, barcodes, and legal obligations
• Work closely with Product Development, Traffic, Marketing, and Quality Control teams
• Handle multiple packaging projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines
• Efficiently incorporate feedback and uphold high standards in design and technical execution
• Comply with internal SOPs, workflows, and approval protocols
Required Skills & Experience:
• 3–5 years of experience in packaging design (experience in retail or FMCG is a plus)
• Strong expertise in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
• Comprehensive understanding of print production, dielines, finishes, and packaging limitations
• Exceptional attention to detail and a robust quality-control mindset
• Ability to work systematically under pressure and manage numerous SKUs/projects
• Comfortable operating in a structured, process-oriented environment
• Excellent communication skills and capability to accept direction and feedback constructively
Advantageous (But Not Essential):
• Experience with consumer electronics or technical products
• Familiarity with international packaging regulations (warnings, compliance icons, multilingual layouts)
• Experience collaborating with Asian suppliers or handling factory-supplied assets
• Background working with global brands such as Disney, Nickelodeon, DC, or similar.
